THE PROFESSIONAL PACKER

This summer my family's travel itinerary is jam packed! From Scottsdale to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, San Diego, and our next stop Honolulu! I've learned over the past six months that traveling with a little one is NEVER easy, but you can make your life and others around you more sane by being OVER prepared. With trial and error, I've narrowed down my must-haves and tips for traveling mommies. Please keep in mind what you need depends on the age of your child, and the length of your flight or road trip. Hope this helps and B

  1. I always pack everything in clear toiletry bags so there are no problems going through TSA. Target sells great content bags in the beauty section.
  2. If you are on a long flight, changing your baby's diaper is inevitable. All airplanes have at least one restroom with a changing table. Ask the flight attendant before take off where it is.
  3. You can check a car seat and stroller at the gate. If you do, make sure to get a claim at gate tag prior to boarding and attach it to the car seat/ stroller. (or else prepare for the wrath of a flight attendant)
  4. Don't forget your baby needs I.D. too! Bring his or her birth certificate or passport if they have one. (If you're planning on doing lots of traveling, I'd recommend in getting a passport. It's much easier than taking a piece of paper around that could tear)
  5. Always dress your little one in layers
  • Travel size bottle soap
  • Expandable bottle brush (You may not find this necessary,I just don't like the smell of dirty bottles in my bag)
  • Pacifier x2
  • Diapers
  • Wipes, Creams
  • Burp Cloth x3
  • Swaddle blanket x2
  • Sweater
  • Socks
  • Extra change of clothes (baby)
  • Extra change of clothes (mommy, trust me you will need this when you don't pack it)
  • Bottles (always pack one more than you need)
  • Breast milk/ Formula (pack this in a small cooler and TSA checks it separately)
  • Gas Drops (or any medications your child may need)
  • Baby Food (depending on child's age)
  • Baby Spoon
  • Bib
  • Toys, Teethers
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Thermometer (I've never used it, but just in case)

ON THE ROAD

  1. The best investment I've made for family road trips are my munchkin backseat organizers. I pack these with everything I could possibly need. It's better than digging through the diaper bag!
  2. While I'm not an advocate of T.V. for my daughter, a portable DVD player can be a lifesaver during melt down moments. (I use Baby Einstein DVD's)
